Earlier people use to go to hotels to eat food but now we have Gofood and Grabfood (there are other websites also) where we get the food at our home, these are some examples of digital marketing. Our world is developing very fast in terms of the internet and technologies. Nowadays by sitting at home, we do everything most of the task is done at home because of the development in technology.
In simple words, digital marketing means selling goods, services and ideas through digital technologies, that is by using laptops, computers, mobile phones, etc. Digital marketing is also known as “Internet Marketing”. Digital marketing is mostly used by businessmen and entrepreneurs for advertising their products, and branding their company image to connect it with their target consumers. They provide information about their company and the products or services they provide to their target consumers, reaching the right target consumers can lead to profit. Marketing is done through various channels such as:
- Search Engines i.e.Google, Yahoo
- Email i.e. Gmail, Hotmail
- Social Media Platforms i.e. Instagram, Facebook
- Websites i.e. Blog, WordPress
These are some common channels that are used by most people. As we can see all businesses and companies are moving online. In 2020, the internet penetration rate in Indonesia stood at 69.8%, this value is estimated to increase in the years to follow and reach 82.53% by 2026. This data is provided by Statista.

As we can see from the above image, the circled red part inside that we can see there are 1,724 digital marketing jobs available while it will increase as time passes. Before applying to any job, carefully read the job description. As we can see that there are different job roles, then only studying digital marketing doesn’t mean that you can apply to all jobs. Check where your interest lies and check if you have enough knowledge, having knowledge of that specific job leads to an easy job interview.
If you have perfect knowledge regarding your subject that leads the interviewer easily select you. As we can see the demand for digital marketers is increasing, now every company make their personal digital marketing team for their advertising, branding and so on, which leads to an increase in job opportunity. Now, digital marketing is essential for all companies. There will be an increase in job opportunities as the future of digital marketing is very bright. The employment market is seeing an increase in demand for digital marketers. If you want a high salary package then try to gain as much knowledge as you can, by having more knowledge you can be a specialist in that specific subject.

From the above image, we can see that in 2019 there were 150.0 million internet users which means that it must have increased by 2022. 56% of the total population has internet access in which 53% of the population has mobile internet users. According to the research of We are social and Hootsuite, almost half of the Indonesian population does not have access to the internet. Though the capacity of the internet population is not that popular there will be an increase in internet users which will lead to an increase in digital marketing. The growth of the internet leads to growth in digital marketing.
The total number of active social media users reached 150 million in 2019. This is about 56% of the total population of Indonesia, of which the vast majority is using various platforms primarily via mobile devices (130 million). As we know that Facebook and Instagram is the most popular social media platform in the world. Indonesia ranks in fourth place worldwide with 130 million active accounts in the year 2019. However, social media must be your number one precedence to establish your online presence to reach your target followership or client, if you want to start digital marketing.
With the development of technology and internet users, numerous Indonesian companies have been expanding their online presence, using Facebook and Instagram to promote themselves and their services and products. We can promote through Facebook which will not take much time and expenditure if done rightly. By looking at the data we can see that social media plays an important part in digital marketing.
